How to Relieve Hemorrhoids Using a Poultice

How to Relieve Hemorrhoids Using a Poultice

Hemmorhoids cause discomfort for even the simple task of sitting. Old folk remedies for this condition are varied. One remedy that does provide relief and eventually cures the condition is an herbal poultice.

Things You'll Need:

Mortar and pestle

Clean fabric

Water

Hot water bottle

Elderberry

Mullein

1

Cleanse the area with water and soap. Cleanse again with alcohol. Allow it to dry.

2

Place the elderberries and mullein in a mortar and pestle and grind into a powder or, if the berries are fresh, into a mush. Make sure the mullein is ground and formed into a powder before adding the berries. Add a small amount of warm water until a paste is formed.

3

Spread out a piece of fabric (linen, muslin, gauze or white cotton fabric) on a clean table and spread the paste formed onto the material in an area large enough to be placed over the affected area.

4

Place the fabric on the hemorrhoids and tie the poultice in place. Apply a hot water bottle to keep the area warm. As the poultice works to heal the area, there will be a throbbing sensation. Once the throbbing begins to subside, replace the poultice and continue application until the throbbing disappears. This throbbing indicates that the poultice is drawing out toxins and infection.

Tips & Warnings

These herbs can be used together or separately. When using mullein the mixture should be 4 parts mullein to 1 part hot apple cider vinegar to 1 part water.
